PROyecto para el MEjoramiento de la SAlud (PROMESA) is Spanish for Project to Improve the Health of the Honduran People. This international health education, training and service learning program evolved from BWH’s health education project, Medical Mission to Honduras. PROMESA seeks to build partnerships across geographical boundaries and work with communities to design sustainable development projects that improve health, according to PROMESA founder and director Linda Jo Stern, MPH.
BWH internal medicine and med/peds residents travel to Honduras for one-month rotations in local health centers. Support is provided by Marshall Wolf, MD, vice president, Medical Education, and Joel Katz, MD, director, Internal Medicine Residency Program. PROMESA also works closely with Mark Davis, MD, and Hilarie Cranmer, MD, both of the ED and International Institute of Emergency Medicine and Health.
Learn more about PROMESA at a fundraiser for the program on Tuesday, October 22, from 6:30 to 9 pm. Join Stern in a foray into the world of Central America, with food, photos, a presentation and music to capture the spirit.
