The new Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) law calls for health care providers, plans and clearinghouses, such as billing services, to ensure security of an individual’s health information and the systems that store, transmit and process that information. As BWH is responsible for meeting the higher standards of confidentiality imposed by HIPAA, training sessions will be available to help staff learn how procedures will change to ensure adherence to HIPAA guidelines. Training sessions for directors, managers and supervisors will be held throughout the months of October and November in the Bornstein Family Amphitheater.
