BWH is bringing medicine to the Internet in a new way by launching a series of health podcasts, available for download from the BWH Web site.
“This is an exciting new pathway for our experts at BWH to share their knowledge and insight with the public,” said Peter Brown, vice president of Public Affairs, which produced the segments in conjunction with Marketing and Planning.
Each podcast is an on-demand audio presentation of a health topic in a question and answer format with a BWH physician. You can listen to the podcasts for free on your computer or MP3 player.
“Podcasts are a way to engage the public on important health issues, featuring BWH experts,” Vicki Amalfitano, vice president of Marketing and Planning, said. “We’re looking to provide patients with all the information they’ll need to take the next step in their health care.”
The first three podcasts, which center on women’s health, are running in combination with a series of BWH women’s health sponsorship messages on local NPR station WBUR. In the first of the women’s health podcasts—now available online—Rachel Ashby, MD, addresses the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Others to be released over the course of the coming month delve into cardiovascular disease with Paula Johnson, MD, MPH, chief of the Division of Women’s Health and executive director of Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology, and the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis with Elinor Mody, MD. In the future, BWH podcasts will branch out to cover an array of other important health topics.
