Victoria Gall, PT, MEd, of the Section of Clinical Sciences, Rheumatology, Immunology & Allergy, is stepping up to support arthritis care and research, causes that she has been passionate about since she began her career in 1973 at the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital. Gall is giving back to BWH by forming a team to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation’s tenth annual Boston Arthritis Walk.
“BWH has so much to offer people with arthritis,” Gall said. “This is our chance to give something back and show how committed we are to the cause.”
BWH benefits from the money raised by the National Arthritis Foundation. In 2005, more than $800,000 of the $1 million dollars from the National Arthritis Foundation given to Massachusetts researchers came to BWH.
On Sept. 17, Gall and Gloria Phillip, from Medical Records, will lead the BWH Joint Walkers in the Boston Arthritis Walk. They encourage others to join them on a one- or three-mile route or to make a donation. Phillip, who has arthritis, is hoping to be able to walk part of the one-mile route.
The Robert Breck Brigham Hospital, one of the predecessor hospitals of BWH, was the first teaching hospital in the country entirely devoted to arthritis and related diseases. Today, the Robert Breck Brigham Arthritis Center at BWH, which has more than 25,000 visits a year, is known nationally for the care it provides.
