Kids learned to perform their own science experiments during the Backup Child Care Center’s February Vacation Club.
When Olga Henry-Saturne, administrative assistant in Channing Laboratory, picked up her daughter from her first day at the February Vacation Club at the BWH Backup Child Care Center, 7-year-old Ashley was upset.
“She had such a great time, she didn’t want to go home,” Henry-Saturne said. Ashley stayed for the rest of the week and made many new friends, both with the other children and with program leaders Christine Clarke, Susan Rahilly, Jerry Rhodes and Jennifer Rzasa.
“I feel really comfortable leaving Ashley with the professional staff at the Backup Child Care Center,” she said.
The vacation clubs differ from the emergency, backup childcare the center provides daily to supplement regular child care when parents are in a bind. Vacation clubs are held at the BWH Backup Child Care Center seven weeks per year, during public school vacations and for four weeks during the summer.
The next vacation club is April 17 to April 21. Activities will include origami lessons, pottery making and bowling, tickets to a performance of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory at the Wheelock Family Theatre, and a guided tour of the Egyptian/Mummy exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts.
BWHers can enroll children ages 5 to 12 in the April Vacation Club for individual days or the entire week. Enrollment for one day costs $60 and the week is $275.
