A Code Pink signals a suspected infant abduction and a request to the BWH community to be on the look-out for suspicious activities. Here are a few reminders of procedures that, when not followed, signal a Code Pink.
• Bassinets: Infants are rarely discharged via bassinet, and, unless there are multiple infants, they are always held by the new mom. Empty bassinets should be returned to post-partum units immediately after discharge as unattended ones will prompt a Code Pink. • Identification: All staff authorized to take/transport an infant must wear his/her distinctive BWH pink hospital ID badge. If you require a pink ID badge, please see your supervisor.
In the event that a Code Pink is called, vigilant observation from all staff is required. Please be on the look-out for suspicious activity such as awkward parcels or infants outside of post-partum floors. Any information should immediately be relayed to security at ext. 2-6565.
