MBTA Price Increase Will Not Jeopardize Subsidy Offer
Taking the T may have just become a little more expensive, but BWH’s MBTA subsidy program will continue to offer passes to employees at significantly reduced rates. In June, BWH Bulletin reported that an across-the-board subsidy of 45 percent would be offered to all employees who enroll in the hospital’s MBTA pass program. (For example, the combination bus and subway pass is $46; through the BWH pass program, it cost only $25.30.) Starting on September 18, the MBTA increased the cost of bus, subway and commuter rail tickets. Employees should note that the slight increase in deductions will show in their October 26 paychecks, for their November passes. The 45 percent subsidy will continue to be applied to all passes, allowing all BWH employees to still be able to receive them at almost half of the regular price. “This is a great benefit for our employees and really does encourage the use of alternative modes of transportation,” said Charlie Skulte, director, Security and Parking. “I hope more employees who now drive will switch to the MBTA.”
Influenza Vaccine Update
Many employees may already be aware that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended delaying influenza (flu) immunization efforts until at least November this year. Difficulties growing this year’s influenza A vaccine and other manufacturing problems have affected the vaccine supply. BWH, along with other hospitals and providers, is expecting the vaccine’s arrival to be delayed. The annual Occupational Health Employee Flu Program in the Connors Lobby will not be scheduled until November, or once the vaccine is available. If you have any questions about the Employee Flu Program, please call Jean Franzini, Occupational Health, NP, at ext. 5418.
