The deadline for the 2000 Partners in Excellence nomination forms has been extended to Wednesday, October 4. Nomination forms can be obtained through department supervisors and the mailroom. 5 Thursday National Depression Screening Day
Bayles Conference Room, Administration B Building, 3rd floor, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Dietary Conference Room, 12-5 p.m. The EAP will offer free, anonymous and confidential screening tests to all employees. Employees may walk in for the 15-minute self-administered test. Mental Health Professionals will be available to confidentially review and discuss the tests. 6 Friday Physician Assistant Appreciation Day
October 6 is National Physician Assistant (PA) Appreciation Day, held to honor all PAs for the quality care they provide to patients. At BWH, physician assistants have been an essential part of patient care for over 20 years. Their hard work and commitment is, and continues to be, greatly appreciated.

11 Wednesday “Clinical Connections: Paths to and from the MD-PhD”

October 5 Schwartz Rounds
Carrie M. Hall Conference Center The Schwartz Rounds will bring together an interdisciplinary team to look at issues that relate to the emotional, psychosocial and spiritual dynamics that affect health care providers in caring for people who are sick or dying. The Ethics Service, headed by Lynn Peterson, M.D., is the principal department involved in planning and coordinating the rounds. Schwartz Center Rounds will be held at 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Lunch will be served. All BWH caregivers are welcome. BWH Basketball League
The 2nd Annual BWH Basketball League will begin in October. Six teams from BWH will compete against other BWH and MGH teams. The league lasts until the end of December, with the best teams—one each from BWH and MGH—advancing to the playoffs. The winner will take the championship trophy as well as the boasting rights. Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women’s Health Lobby October 12, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. October 13, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. The Friends of BWH would like to invite all employees to attend the “Books are Fun book fair.” The proceeds of the fair will benefit the hospital. For more information, call ext. 8125.
October 16-20 Plastic Surgery Week
The Division of Plastic Surgery will provide information on cosmetic plastic surgery outside the BWH cafeteria the week of October 16 (every day except Tuesday), from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3 p.m.-4 p.m.
19 Thursday Book Buddies Orientation
11 a.m.-12 p.m. Tobin School Volunteers are needed to read to kindergarten – fifth grade students at the Maurice J. Tobin School once a month on Thursday’s from October 26-June. Spanish speaking volunteers are particularly needed. An orientation for the program will be held on October 19, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Tobin School. Lunch will be served.
