Jovenes Latinos Pro Salud Graduation
Pike Notes
The eleven participants of Jovenes Latinos Pro Salud —a summer employment and enrichment program for high-school-aged Latino youth from Mission Hill—graduated from the program in a ceremony and luncheon held in Carrie Hall on August 22. For the last seven weeks, the participants have been working in various departments of the hospital. Each day, they worked in their departments by assisting with daily projects and developing a Cultural Competency Project with their supervisors. They also participated in computer training, life skills workshops, health careers seminars, a cultural awareness class and other seminars and work periods. By the end of the summer, the participants were certified in CPR, JCAHO Safety and Universal Precautions and basic computer education. Jovenes Latinos Pro Salud is a collaborative venture between BWH and Sociedad Latina—Boston's only Latino youth agency—that operates with funding from the Office of Jobs and Community Services of the City of Boston.
