In January, Maria Damiano, administrator of the CDIC, was presented with the first Dennis J. Thomson Leadership Award. Now, nominations are being accepted for the second annual Award to be pre-sented in January 2001.
In addition to a plaque in recognition of her award, Damiano was given a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward a leadership-skills building course of her choice. She chose to attend a Strategy and Leadership course toward her master’s degree at Simmons College.
BWH also donated $1,000 in Damiano’s name to the Dennis J. Thomson Fund to support compassionate care at BWH.
The Dennis J. Thomson Leadership Award was created in memory of the late vice president of Public Affairs who passed away in November 1998 after a battle with cancer. The award recognizes a member of the BWH community who demonstrates key qualities of leadership, such as character, competency, composure, commitment, courage and care for people.
To nominate an employee who fits this profile, take a moment to fill out the enclosed form (see page 10). In addition to exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities, the nominee must maintain an active BWH role and be in good standing at the hospital.
Nominations are due on or before November 17.
