On February 14 and 15, distinguished nurse researcher Janice Morse, RN, PHD, PhD, FAAN shared her insight and unique perspective on patient care as part of the 2002 Frances Donovan Visiting Nurse Scholar Program. Morse, an expert in the field of comfort, delivered a series of lectures at BWH on “Comfort and Comforting” and “The Relevance of Suffering in the Provision of Care.” In her February 15 lecture, Morse addressed an interdisciplinary audience of nurses, physicians, chaplains, social workers and others at a special Medical Grand Rounds. Over the course of her two-day visit to BWH, Morse completed patient care rounds on Tower 11, Tower 14, 9C and met with the BWH Falls Prevention Team.
The Frances Donovan Visiting Nurse Scholar program is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of BWH who established a fund in memory of Mrs. Frances Donovan. Mrs. Donovan, a former trustee at the Peter Bent Brigham and an active member of the Friends, was a strong and passionate leader who recognized the importance of having nurses prepared educationally to meet the needs of patients. The annual lecture given in her memory is delivered by a nursing leader in the field of comfort and compassionate caring.
