The numbers are tallied and the results are in. As the result of a friendly three-week challenge, one clear winner has emerged – the patients! The annual blood drive challenge between the “Green Monsters” (BWH, DFCI and Partners Information Systems, Wellesley) and the “Boston Red Cells” (MGH, MEEI, Spaulding Hospital and Shriners Hospital), concluded September 12. The challenge helped to significantly increase blood donations among employees.
The results of the challenge were close with each team winning one facet by a small margin. The BWH Green Monsters managed to recruit 3 percent of all employees to donate, while the Boston Red Cells came in at a close second with 2.6 percent of all full-time, day-time employees donating. However, the MGH Boston Red Cells finished with 354 donations, versus the Green Monsters with 305 donations.
As with each year’s challenge results, the true winners are the patients, who receive the blood donations during a time of year when the blood supply drops to dangerously low levels.
