This week ASK YOURSELF: “Do you know how to respond if there is a fire in your work area?” Although the physical components of the hospital (engineering, construction, and devices such as sprinklers and fire alarms) have been designed for fire prevention, it is each employee’s awareness and actions that can make all the difference should a fire occur. In the event of a fire, employees who work in the affected area are responsible for implementing BWH’s Code Red Procedure (as noted on the back of BWH ID badges).
Visit www.bwhpikenotes.org/jcaho/default.cfm#countdown for this or any other “Countdown to JCAHO” article, as mentioned in other issues of BWH Bulletin.
From now until the January 2004 JCAHO Survey, a weekly on-line “Ask Yourself” article series will be available at (www.bwhpikenotes.org). It is important for all staff to familiarize themselves with the content of these articles and to be prepared to answer related questions from a JCAHO Surveyor during the Survey.
Staff are also reminded that the 4th edition of Finishing Touches is available online. This helpful tool is a consolidated resource for all staff to prepare for the January 2004 Survey.
