The issues that O’Neil Britton, MD, tackles in his role as assistant director of Minority Career Development will continue to surface in years to come. In that same time span, diverse medical professionals will be even more under-represented than they are now. In the last data collected by the American Association of Medical Colleges in 2001, of the approximately 17,000 newly matriculated medical students in the country, only 1,881 (11%) were from under-represented minority backgrounds.
