Keys to Success in Leadership and Management Development
The results of The Leadership and Management Development Benchmarking project conducted by the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) in 2002 found BWH as one of four top institutions for defining leadership. This ranking indicates that BWH and the other three top organizations effectively define the capabilities (skills, knowledge and abilities) needed for current and future leaders within the organization.
“After employees’ feedback from BWH’s first Staff Survey, we have taken great strides in fine-tuning our leadership definition and development programs,” said Cheryl Locke, vice president of Human Resources at BWH. “Since we began our work on this front, subsequent survey results and this UHC endorsement indicate that we are on the right track for improvement.”
As a result of its overall benchmarking project, UHC found the six elements listed in the chart below as keys to succeed in leadership and management development. Interestingly, BWH’s Leadership Staff Survey Action Team has completed or is addressing many of the elements mentioned.
