Last month, 28 teams made up of 307 people from Brigham and Women’s/FaulknerHospitals gathered together for the American Heart Association’s Boston Heart Walk Sept. 10. A total of 12,000 people participated in this year’s walk.
“It was a great event. The participation was the best it has been in several years,” said team co-captain Sharon Cohen, of the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization, who headed the team with Michael Kyller, of the Cardiovascular Division. “One of the goals we had for this year’s walk and the BW/F team was to promote participation and awareness among the employees in cardiovascular areas, and we were definitely successful in doing that.”
To date, BW/F has raised more than $45,000 and is still actively fundraising through Oct. 10 to meet its goal of $50,000.
“The participation we had this year—more than 300 walkers for 28 teams—speaks to our mutual commitment to the goals and mission of the AHA,” said Patrick T. O’Gara, MD, executive medical director of the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center and director of Clinical Cardiology. “We raised nearly $45,000 to help support heart disease and stroke research. Congratulations to all our team members.”
