Thomas Glynn receives a Community Service Award
Executive Director Paula McNichols kicked off Brookside Community Health Center’s (BCHC) annual meeting on the evening of Wednesday, January 16, summarizing the year in review.
“This year alone, Brookside conducted more than 60,000 patient visits, recruiting nearly 1,500 new clients,” said McNichols. “Despite our ongoing renovations, we maintained all hours of operation, not closing our doors for even a day.”
“Perhaps our most incredible achievement this year is that all of our staff is still here and speaking to one another, despite the fact that everyone had to move at least twice over the past 18 months,” joked McNichols, referring to the renovation project, which began in June 2001. “I am excited to say that the renovation looks to be complete by the first week of February 2003.”
McNichols went on to personally thank the dedicated staff of BCHC. She also praised the continued support of the Friends of BWH, Partners HealthCare and other community partners.
BWH President Gary L. Gottlieb, MD, MBA, also spoke at the meeting, greeting attendees and painting the picture of how BCHC fits in with BWH’s overall mission to provide quality health care to all people. “Brookside Community Health Center is so emblematic of what community health care is all about,” said Gottlieb. “Brookside staff walk into people’s lives and make a difference. What you do here every day is critical to the mission of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and to Partners HealthCare overall. And so my role tonight is to thank you.”
The evening concluded with remarks from guest speaker Rob Restuccia, executive director of Health Care for All, and the presentation of Community Service Awards to Sandra Storey, editor and publisher of the Jamaica Plain Gazette; Thomas Glynn, chief operating officer of Partners HealthCare; and Ed Cameron, a Jamaica Plain resident and past chairman of the Brookside Policy Board.
