Office for Women, Family and Community Programs
In her 11 years at BWH, Angela Covington has touched the lives of everyone from 5-year-old kindergarten students at Tobin School—through Brigham Book Buddies—to fellow Decon Response Team members. These are just two of many efforts Covington voluntarily supports in addition to her administrative assistant role in the Office for Women, Family and Community Programs (OWFCP).
“There are so many incredible members of this community,” said Covington, who joined BWH in 1995 as a practice secretary in BIMA and began in the OWFCP in 1999. “I look forward to meeting new people every day.”
In the OWFCP, Covington answers all incoming phone calls and assists staff with scheduling meetings and events, ordering supplies and distributing materials.
Above and beyond her daily responsibilities in the OWFCP, Covington serves as co-chair of the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) scholarship committee, coordinator of the Brigham Book Buddies program and a member of the Staff Activities Advisory Committee and the Decon Response Team. She also is a three-time BWH team member in the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk.
She does all of this while studying to become a radiologic technologist.
“I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to advance my education while following my passion for helping underserved communities through the OWFCP,” she said.
Covington received scholarships through both the Partners Financial Assistance Program and AMMP and is now in her third year at Bunker Hill Community College. In June, she will graduate with her associate’s degree. She plans to specialize in mammography.
“Angela has been a dedicated BWH employee for many years,” said JudyAnn Bigby, MD, director of Community Health Programs, and soon to be secretary of Health and Human Services under Governor-elect Deval Patrick. “Her commitment to pursuing her career should inspire all who are trying to juggle work and furthering their own education and their families. She is a true heroine!”
