When 830 and 850 Bolyston St. lost power because of a nearby automobile accident early in the morning on Friday, Aug. 5, dozens of staff ensured a smooth backup plan for staff working at both sites and outpatient appointments scheduled at 850 Boylston St.
Telecommunications, through the leadership of Carolyn Thompson, efficiently fielded calls from concerned patients and put them in touch with appropriate staff. Other Telecommunications staff, including Rich Crowley and Richie Ludwig, were pivotal in helping to restore the phone lines. In addition, thanks to the Pain Management, Endoscopy and OR management teams, the more timely appointments were referred to BWH's main campus, where procedures and treatments were carried out as scheduled. Security also maintained a steady presence at both sites to ensure no staff or patients entered the buildings for safety reasons.
“When faced with this significant logistical challenge, everyone worked together to either reschedule patients or handle their appointments at other sites. I appreciate everyone's efforts in lending a helpful hand to take care of our displaced staff and patients,” said Janet Razulis, director, Ambulatory and Community Health Services.
