BWH continued to claim its place among the country's top health care facilities on U.S. News & World Report's annual Honor Roll of “America's Best Hospitals,” ranking twelfth on this year's list of the top 16 hospitals, the same position as last year. In the guide's grading of the best hospitals, BWH ranked among the top 10 in six categories: Cardiology, Hormonal Disorders, Digestive Disorders, Gynecology, Kidney Disease, and Rheumatology.
“Our solid footing on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll for more than a decade is reflective of your hard work and commitment to our mission of providing exceptional patient care, innovative research and commitment to teaching the next generation of health care leaders,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb. “Thank you for making this a truly remarkable place to work and receive care.”
Massachusetts General Hospital also made the list, ranking third, as BWH and its sister Partners HealthCare hospital were the only New England facilities to make the Honor Roll.
Since 1989, U.S. News & World Report annually has reviewed 17 specialties at thousands of American medical centers to compose its honor roll. This year, the magazine surveyed more than 6,000 hospitals, and just 176 of them scored high enough in at least one specialty to gain a place among the top 50 rankings. In addition to its six top 10 placements, BWH ranked among the nation's top 50 hospitals in Cancer, Geriatrics, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Respiratory and Urology.
Other Partners members also earned high honors by ranking in individual specialties. McLean Hospital ranked fourth among psychiatric programs, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital placed sixth among rehabilitation centers. Also, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BWH's partner in cancer care, was fourth in cancer services.
