Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Chief Operating Officer Jim Conway-who has been instrumental in the success of Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center (DF/BWCC)-is leaving his executive leadership post to focus on national patient safety issues and DFCI's hospice program, HealthCare Dimensions.
Many of Conway's colleagues and other supporters paid tribute to his contributions to DFCI and the full Longwood Medical Area during a farewell celebration held last week in the Jimmy Fund Auditorium. “I don't know anybody who runs operations as effectively, fairly and decently as Jim Conway,” said DFCI President Emeritus David G. Nathan, MD, who recruited Conway in 1995.
In addition to his recent leadership with DF/BWCC, Conway worked with then-President Nathan to lead the transfer of DFCI's inpatient beds to BWH (in early 1997) and develop other key partnerships. He is best known for his tireless focus on safety and quality improvement, and he helped make DFCI a
national leader in patient-centered care. During his tenure, he managed the substantial growth of the Institute's clinical and research operations with Nathan and current Institute President Edward J. Benz Jr., MD.
