Evan Marcus practices his guitar in preparation for the debut of Music in the Mornings.
Kessler Library this month launches a new concert series, Music in the Mornings. The program is part of BWH's ongoing effort to provide a relaxing and pleasant experience for hospital patients, family members, staff and volunteers. "The concerts provide an opportunity to celebrate musicians and music enthusiasts in the BWH community, providing them a venue to share their music and affect positively our patients' health and enrich their lives," said Cara Helfner, MSLIS, chief librarian and program manager. "Music naturally invokes calm and reduces stress, and I think everyone can benefit from that."
The first performance features Evan Marcus, a BWH technical research assistant. Marcus has studied at the New England Conservatory and will perform a selection of music by classical and Latin composers. This program is part of New England Conservatory's Performances and Partnerships Program, a community outreach program which links New England Conservatory students with the greater Boston community.
Music in the Mornings debuts March 20 at 9 a.m. in the Kessler Library. The next concert is April 27 and features Steven Lin, student and instructor at the New England Conservatory, and concerts are planned for May and fall.
