The artwork hanging on the walls of the Sharf Admitting Center is bound for museums in Japan. Long-time BWH benefactors Fred and Jean Sharf are lending approximately 150 pieces from their personal collection to the Toyota Automobile Museum at the world headquarters of Toyota Corp. and the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts, a sister institution of Boston's MFA.
“Toyota has its own museum and automobile collection and wanted to see some of our pieces for display in Japan,” Sharf said. Last month, Sharf and BWH hosted Mr. Koji Yamada, curator of Toyota's museum, so he could see Sharf's collection on display.
“Mr. Yamada was very pleased with how the show looked in the admitting center,” Sharf said following the visit. Approximately 30 pieces from Sharf's vast collection adorn the admitting center walls. He plans to lend those and another 120 pieces from his private collection to the Japanese museums.
Christine F. Collins, director of Patient Access Services, said Sharf's collection of automobile artwork that has graced the admitting center for nearly 18 months would be missed. “Everyone loves those pictures, but Mr. Sharf is sharing more of his personal collection with us in January,” she said.
How about a preview for Bulletin? “Stay tuned,” she said.
