There are a lot of changes going on in Breast Imaging in Radiology, a BWH department long known for its cutting-edge advances and industry-leading initiatives. “Our most important new move will be having Magnetic Resonance Imaging under the roof in our Breast Imaging suite as we move to phase one of the new Bell Breast Imaging Center,” said Robyn Birdwell, MD, head of BWH's Breast Imaging Section. “We are expanding what we can offer women with integration between breast MR and ultrasound.”
Birdwell came on board at BWH last year as she transitioned from Stanford University Medical Center. Over the summer, she took over full-time duties as the Breast Imaging Section head. “We are extremely happy to have Robyn on board at such an exciting time for our department,” Radiology Chairman Steven Seltzer, MD, said.
Birdwell attended Smith College undergrad and earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She trained as a resident in Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, and she served as a chief resident in Diagnostic Radiology.
Seltzer thanked Jack Meyer, MD, for his years of dedi-cated leadership of BWH's Breast Imaging section and Sughra Raza, MD, for interim leadership prior to Birdwell joining BWH full time. “Jack and Sughra have been indispensable and remain integral parts of our department,” Seltzer said.
