Up to four million women in America are victims of domestic abuse each year. As a medical community, everyone at BWH can make a difference and strengthen the hospital’s collective response to assist victims of domestic violence. Passageway, a domestic violence advocacy and assistance group at BWH, will be hosting information tables outside the cafeteria and will sponsor a workshop series throughout October, in order to raise awareness of this important health issue. Some include: • “How to Document Domestic Violence Effectively in Medical Records.” October 6, 10-11:30 a.m., Thorn B and C. Presented by Pualani Enos, JD, Northeastern University, Domestic Violence Law Clinic. • “Understanding Legal Remedies and Options.” October 10, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Moloney Library. Presented by Carwina Weng, JD, senior attorney, Greater Boston Legal Services. • “Recognizing Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence” October 19, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Moloney Library Presented by Elizabeth Cohen, Survivors’ Assistance Program, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children • “Responding to Domestic Violence in Same-Sex Relationships” October 26, 2-3:30 p.m., Thorn B and C Presented by Emily Pitt, MSW, Victim Recovery Program, Fenway Community Health • “Protecting Children Without Re-victimizing Their Mothers” October 31, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Moloney Library Presented by Crystal Jackson, DV specialist, Department of Social Services. Light refreshments and beverages will be provided at the above programs. Employees should feel free to bring lunch. To register for any of these programs, or for more information, call ext. 7052.
