Radiology Team of Two Offers Expertise and Talent in Salt Lake City
BWH radiologists Carl Winalski, MD and Leland Sosman, MD are both offering their expertise to the athletes of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Carl Winalski, MDCarl Winalski, MD, a bone radiologist, is one of the country’s leading experts in sports medicine imaging and was chosen by the Eastman Kodak Company to serve as a visiting radiologist in The Olympic Polyclinic. There, Winalski and a team of seven other radiologists selected from renowned medical centers in the United States, are assisting radiologists from the University of Utah Health Sciences Center to treat world-class athletes competing in the Olympic Games. Kodak, a long-time worldwide sponsor of the Olympics, supplied a myriad of diagnostic imaging equipment to be used on-site at this year’s Games. With the use of state-of-the-art imaging equipment at the location of competition, physicians are better able to provide fast and accurate diagnosis and treatment that could enable the injured athletes to continue to compete.
Leland Sosman, MDAlthough not offering his medical expertise, Leland Sosman, MD is offering his sports knowledge and judgement as he officiates downhill skiing events at the Games. Sosman, a member of the staff of the Robert Breck Brigham and BWH for more than 50 years, serves as an active official in the International Ski Federation.
