For the ninth year in a row, BWH and MGH were recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of “America’s Best Hospitals.” Out of the 16 hospitals included in the Honor Roll, BWH ranked 11th and MGH ranked 3rd. This year, BWH and MGH are again the only hospitals in Massachusetts and New England to make the Honor Roll. “This recognition is a culmination of the tremendous talent and teamwork evident in all areas of BWH,” said Jeff Otten, BWH president. “I applaud all employees’ efforts in making this honor possible and I send special congratulations to those in the BWH specialties specifically recognized by the magazine.” In the magazine’s ranking of the best hospitals, BWH ranked among the top 10 in cardiology (5th), endocrinology (4th), gynecology (3rd), nephrology (2nd), pulmonology (9th) and rheumatology (4th). BWH placed within the top 20 hospitals in six other specialties, including oncology (18th), gastroenterology (15th), geriatrics (16th), neurology/neurosurgery (13th), orthopedics (12th) and urology (20th). To determine its 2001 Honor Roll, U.S.News & World Report evaluated 1,878 eligible hospitals in 17 specialties based on reputation, mortality and a group of other factors related to patient care, such as nursing and technology. Other Partners affiliated organizations received high honors as well. McLean Hospital ranked 4th for its psychiatric program and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital placed 12th among rehabilitation centers. In addition, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ranked 4th for cancer services. “Congratulations once again to all physicians, nurses and other caregivers,” said Samuel O. Thier, MD, Partners president and CEO. “The recognition is a well-deserved testament to the excellent, compassionate care provided to our patients day in and day out.” Partners Hospitals’ Scores
