The Crew of the Navy's USS Constitution recently presented staff and employees of BWH's Operating Room (OR) with a proclamation and autographed
photo as a thank you for sending a large gift basket filled with books, playing cards, chewing gum, movie passes, disposable cameras, among other appreciated items.
In addition to thinking of the members of the Navy here in Boston, OR nurses have been busy sending helpful items overseas. After corresponding with friends in the U.S. military serving in Kuwait, Iraq and on carrier ships in the Persian Gulf, OR nurses Nancy Carrigan and Christie Pope received first-hand information about what was needed overseas.
"We posted a list of items to contribute, and they just started to appear,"said Carrigan. "OR staff and employees literally donated hundreds of AA batteries, chap stick, sun screen, snack food, chewing gum, etc."
The OR continues to ship packages to approximately five people serving in the vicinity of Iraq. The OR will gladly accept any items that are suitable for shipping as well as any monetary donations for the postage. Please direct any questions to Carrigan at (ncarrigan@partners.org).
