Mary Fay Enrichment Awards
The BWH nursing community gathered to honor the 2011 Mary Fay Enrichment Award recipients and receive an update on the work of the 2010 awardees during a ceremony this fall.
Established in 1999 by Yousuf and Estrellita Karsh, the awards are made possible through the generous support of the Karsh family, Marshall Wolf, MD, and the Department of Nursing. Over the last decade, the Mary Fay Enrichment Award (named for a former chief nurse at BWH) has given clinical nurses the opportunity to explore ways to enhance patient care and advance nursing practice at BWH. This year’s recipients are:
Brian Simon, BSN, RN, of the CDIC: “Advanced cardiopulmonary exercise testing at Brigham and Women’s Hospital”
Patricia Barztak, MSN, RN, of Tower 8AB: “An evidentiary review of reporting nursing errors: Strategies to encourage error reporting to enhance patient safety”
Shirley Mahoney, NP, BSN, RN, of the ICU Float Pool: “The effect that introducing quiet time will have on the incidence of hyperactive delirium in the Medical Intensive Care Unit”
Tina Steele, RN, of the NICU, “The effects of pasteurized donor human milk on selected neonatal outcomes”
Alice Carroll, BS, Ed, RN, of Care Management: “Smooth transitions: Integration of evidenced based dementia care on an acute hospital medical unit, development of a nursing model from admission to discharge and beyond”
