BWH is implementing a new policy for professional staff on Harassment, Unprofessional Relationships and Abuse of Authority. The goal of the policy is to create a culture of teamwork and professionalism throughout the hospital community, including patient care, research and educational settings.
“BWH takes allegations of sexual and other harassment, unprofessional authority and abuse of authority very seriously, and this new policy will assist us in continuing to address such issues effectively,” said Gary L. Gottlieb, MD, MBA, BWH president. “We intend to embrace these key values as a means of creating and sustaining an environment of trust, mutual understanding, dignity and respect for all who work here.”
The new policy has been spearheaded by Frederick Schoen, MD, PhD, and is fully supported by hospital and physician leadership. To be announced and implemented soon is a comprehensive training program, mandatory of all clinicians and researchers. At the training, physicians will learn more specifics about the policy.
“This new comprehensive policy, developed by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, other professional and administrators will directly enhance the quality of work life at BWH,” said Schoen.
