Clinical Systems Audit Coming Sept. 10 to Oct. 5
BWH Health Information Services in September is set to begin the hospital’s second annual clinical systems audit to monitor staff and employee access to three systems: BICS Clinical Information (CI), the Longitudinal Medical Record (LMR) and the Clinical Data Repository (CDR, results).
The successful completion of this audit, which will be conducted between Sept. 10 and Oct. 5, is integral to hospital-wide efforts to remain compliant with HIPAA Privacy and Security laws and ensure the privacy and safety of patients. HIS and Information Systems go to great lengths to make this a smooth and efficient process.
“This is an important self-check to make sure everyone who has access to our electronic clinical systems is supposed to have that access,” said Jackie Raymond, BWH’s director of HIS.
Staff who manage direct reports as listed in Peoplesoft and have access to BICS CI, the LMR and/or CDR, will receive an email with a link to the clinical systems audit Web site. Managers will have the ability review their reports with access to systems, keep or remove their access to the BICS CI, the LMR and/or CDR applications only. Employees that are not listed in Peoplesoft will not appear on the list.
Last year, 95 percent of managers (464) completed the audit of 98 percent eligible staff.
