The Department of Surgery at BWH has purchased 2 assistive listening devices (ALDs) for use with hearing impaired patients, primarily inpatients, who are having difficulties communicating with hospital staff. This equipment comprises a headset for the patient and a hand-held microphone into which hospital staff may speak. The volume may be adjusted to a comfortable listening level for the patient. The sound quality is typically much better than that of hearing aids. If you have a patient who would benefit from this free service, please contact Melanie Scott in Audiology at 713-2000.
