For the sixth time, BWH has earned a spot on The Leapfrog Group's annual list of Top Hospitals in recognition of high performance in the areas of quality and safety.
"At BWH, we are committed to safe, high-quality care, and we are continually refining our systems and processes to ensure this for our patients and their families," said David Bates, MD, MSc, chief quality officer at BWH. "This recognition reflects the outstanding work that all our employees do on behalf of our patients every day to meet this commitment."
The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group's national survey that measures hospitals' performance in crucial areas of patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures in place to prevent errors.
"Brigham and Women's Hospital stands out as consistently providing safe, high-quality care," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "It's a place I would be comfortable sending my family to for care."
In addition to being named a Top Hospital, BWH was also honored with an "A" Hospital Safety Score by the group. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries and medical and medication errors.
