BWH Information Systems (IS) is beginning the roll-out of Windows 7 to all inpatient clinical areas, starting in the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center this summer. The initial roll-out to clinical areas is part of a larger plan to upgrade all PCs in the hospital to Windows 7.
The major change users will notice on a Windows 7 device is the faster log on speed. In addition, the Windows 7 taskbar offers larger icons for quick and easy access to all applications.
IS is starting with the inpatient clinical computers because many are in need of a hardware update, and the applications on these computers have already been tested on Windows 7. Once the inpatient units are complete, roll-out will continue to outpatient clinical computers and then to devices in non-clinical areas throughout the hospital.
Nursing directors will be contacted before the computers on their units are updated with Windows 7. Training materials and quick reference guides will be available at each device for support.
For access to training resources including online tutorials, webinars, reference guides and frequently asked questions, please visit the Windows 7 Resource Site at: http://sharepoint.partners.org/phs/istraining and search "Windows 7."
For questions about the roll-out, contact project specialist Michael Buckley at mfbuckley@partners.org. If you have already received the upgrade and have questions about using Windows 7, contact the Help Desk at 617-732-5927.
