In April, BWH saw a rise in hand hygiene compliance, just one month after the hospital launched the “My Health is in Your Hands” campaign.
Inpatient units demonstrated a 93.9 percent compliance rate in April, up from 92.2 percent in FY’12 quarter two, and 90.6 percent prior in the first quarter.
“We’re pleased to see this steady increase in our rates, but we’re not there yet,” said Chief Medical Officer Stan Ashley, MD. “Our goal is to reach 100 percent compliance to ensure the safest possible care for our patients.”
The “My Health is in Your Hands” campaign features BWH patients explaining why it’s important to them that staff follow proper hand hygiene protocol. Posters with patients’ stories are featured around the hospital, as well as on the TV screens and on BWHPikeNotes.org
“Cleaning your hands is one of the simplest, yet most important things we can do to protect our patients from infection,” said BWH epidemiologist Deborah Yokoe, MD.
