Ambulatory OB/GYN Medical Assistant Jennifer Muller has a unique way to connect with patients. Whether it’s through talking about music, TV shows or hobbies, she finds a way to put patients at ease.
“The connection she makes allows patients to open up. In addition, her passion for women’s health care and her commitment to excellent patient care make her an inspiration and a role model to all who are privileged to work with her,” said Sandra Harmon, MSN, RN, Center for Infertility and Reproductive Surgery nursing director.
For her dedication to caring for BWH patients, Muller received the Medical Assistant of the Year Award last month. At the awards ceremony, Kim Moore of the Emergency Department received the Emergency Service Assistant of the Year Award and Althea McDonald White of Shapiro 10 West received the Patient Care Assistant of the Year award.
Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Jackie Somerville, PhD, RN, congratulated the many clinical support staff who were nominated for the awards.
“Whether you serve as a preceptor to new staff, anticipate the needs of nurses, doctors, patients and their families, or provide valuable feedback on processes and equipment, you are an important part of our care team,” Somerville said.
During the ceremony, nomination forms for the winners were read. Moore was lauded for her ability to anticipate patients’ needs. “This doesn’t come as second nature to Kim. This is her nature,” said her nominator.
McDonald White demonstrates that same dedication to her patients and their families on Shapiro 10.
“She recognizes the importance of family participation in the care plan. She has the ability to put herself in someone else’s shoes and acts when she recognizes a need. This is not limited to patient care; she’s also there for all of her colleagues when they need her,” said Elizabeth Eagan-Bengston, MS, RN, assistant nurse director for Shapiro 9 and 10.
