The latest exhibit at BWH’s Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf Admitting Center might have patients reminiscing about clothes and fashion from decades past. Since last month, images from “Exploring Fashion: The Art of Kenneth Paul Block, 1960-1990” have decked the walls, showing glamorous sketches of fashion from the mid-to late-20th century.
“The Admitting Center is a wonderful place for this exhibit,” said Chris Collins, executive director of Patient Access Services. “These colorful, vibrant images provide a much needed distraction for patients who are facing hospitalization. People get up and look at these drawings, which help them focus their minds on something other than their anxiety.”
Since it opened in 2002, the Sharf Admitting Center at BWH has hosted art exhibitions that display some of the spectacular images from Jean and Frederic Sharf’s extensive collection of design drawings, which have all been donated to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Sharf is a founding member of the BWH Trust Board, and he and his wife, Jean, are active and loyal supporters of the hospital. Sharf is also a well-known collector, scholar and author who bought his first piece of art when he was a teenager.
“We’re excited that Fred has chosen to share this collection with BWH,” Collins said. “We encourage patients and staff to visit the Admitting Center to see the fabulous sketches.”
