To acknowledge employees who demonstrate excellence, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Division of Rheumatology and Allergy created the STAR award program. STAR is comprised of a series of customer service standards that focus on four areas: service, teamwork, attitude and respect (STAR).
“STAR is a patient-centered program designed to foster teamwork and facilitate care for patients,” said Thomas Thornhill, MD, chair of Orthopedic Surgery.
Anyone in the practice or who works with staff in Orthopedics, Rheumatology or Allergy can nominate a staff member for this award by e-mailing bwhboacstar@partners.org
“We tried to define these standards clearly with examples, and we want to recognize those who live up to the standards,” said Jonathan Beauchesne, administrative director for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Arthritis Center. “These actions and behaviors also directly affect our patients, and we want to provide them with the best experience possible when they come to us for care.”
“We are here to help our patients navigate an increasingly complex system,” said Jonathan Coblyn, MD, director of the Center for Arthritis and Joint Diseases and Clinical Rheumatology. “At every step, we can make their journey for that particular day better by treating them with kindness and compassion. This program will help us to remain focused on that goal.”
Thornhill added, “We congratulate Jonathan Beauchesne and his administrative staff for creating this program that underscores the values that our staff add to patient care.”
The program launched March 29 after several weeks of e-mail blasts providing examples of STAR behavior. A committee of managers, supervisors and staff will meet monthly to review nominations and award recipients with small unique gifts, as well as draw one lucky recipient’s name from a hat for a gift card prize at the end of each quarter.
