Michael Cox-Jakimczyk holds up his award.
The staff of BWH Security and Parking got a special musical treat at this year’s annual awards dinner: one of their own valets, Josue Cruz, hopped on the dance floor and delivered an impromptu Latin rap performance.
“He really wowed the place,” said Robert Donaghue, operations manager for Security and Parking, and the emcee of last month’s event at Longwood Hall in the Longwood Galleria. “It was a sparkling evening with great entertainment, great food and a great turnout.”
The awards dinner is a chance for the 300 employees of the department to celebrate their contributions during the past year, and in 2009, there were many. Security staff issued more than 13,600 new ID badges and more than 120,000 temporary badges for visitors. Valets parked 337, 946 cars, and shuttle and patrol vehicles drove a total of 55,776 miles.
The highlight of the annual event is the awards presentation. This year’s valet winners are: Javier Santiago, Valet of the Year; Michael Cox-Jakimczyk, Valet Customer Service Representative of the Year; Krissy Viale, Valet Cashier of the Year; and Mark Henderson, Valet Supervisor of the Year. For Security, the awards went to: Brandon Matrone, Security Officer of the Year; Chantal Horgan, Security Dispatcher of the Year; and Scott Chandler, Security Supervisor of the Year.
Because parking and security operations run 24/7, the 50 staff who were on duty throughout the main campus, 221 Longwood Ave., 850 Boylston St., and One Brigham Circle received boxed meals. “We want to make sure our staff working during the event can take part in the festivities in some way,” Donaghue said.
