BWH is participating in a Partners-wide emergency preparedness drill Aug. 3 to 6. Several hospital leaders and staff will lead the hospital’s response to the drill, which calls for a virtual influx of patients to be received, triaged and treated at BWH.
In addition, MGH, Faulkner Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Newton-Wellesley Hospital also are participating in the three days of exercises followed by a fourth day for analysis and review. The Harvard School of Public Health designed and will lead the exercise, thanks to a federal grant.
“We do not know the scenario, but we do know that we will use the Duncan Reid conference room as a command center, as we do for other drills and emergency situations,” said Barry Wante, CEM, director of Emergency Management in BWH’s Center for Emergency Preparedness. “Some departments and units may be involved and others won’t.”
That’s the point, Wante said. “We are testing our ability to respond to emergency situations.”
Staff are asked to be flexible and participate when appropriate. However, do not alter plans or schedules.
