Motivation, dedication and energy are must-have attributes to train for and run the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon. Team Brigham runners also must have a commitment to raise $3,000 on behalf of community programs at BWH. This week, three of the team’s 136 runners share their reasons for seeking the Team Brigham marathon experience. To support Team Brigham runners, visit www.firstgiving.com/bwh and enter a runner’s name or scroll through the list of runners.

“My father has the most caring heart. What I have learned about caring, selflessness and giving was through a lifetime of his example. Last year, he had heart surgery at a hospital in Rhode Island, and doctors there couldn’t fix what was wrong. Dr. Gregory Michaud from BWH crossed state borders to share his expertise and the latest innovations in cardiac care to bring my father back to health. My family and I are indebted to the Brigham because of that. I chose to run for Team Brigham because I want everyone in the community to be able to benefit from this hospital, too.”

“My sister in-law has breast cancer and is treated at Dana-Farber and Faulkner Hospital. She’s my inspiration. The money we raise for Team Brigham helps breast cancer patients here get wigs and other things that they need, and it’s inspiring to know we’re helping such a worthy cause.”
Nicole Fiore, RN
“I’m running in honor of my father, a cancer survivor. He had brain surgery here and received care at BWH and Dana-Farber. He’s been in remission almost three years now. This marathon challenge is my way of saying thank you to BWH for giving my father a second chance. For Mary (Hedin) and me, the journey is the reward.”
