More than 200 employees worked together to transform the way BWH serves meals to inpatients, leading the way to the highest patient satisfaction scores for meals to date.
The team in Receiving at 89 Fenwood Rd. worked tirelessly to accept all the new equipment deliveries needed for the opening of the Shapiro Center while keeping up with its regular strenuous schedule.
Another group of BWHers from across the hospital gives up their lunch break twice a month to help fourth- and fifth-grade students in Mission Hill with science projects.
These teams were among 57 teams and 69 individuals last week honored with Partners in Excellence Awards for a broad range of contributions to BWH and the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.
“To all of you who are so deeply committed to our community and our mission, thank you,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, to recipients during a ceremony in the Cabot Atrium. “You make Brigham and Women’s Hospital a special place.”
Awardees were nominated by their colleagues and managers for their contributions in the areas of leadership and innovation, delivering quality care and service, operational efficiency and teamwork.
2007 PIE award recipient Kevin Myron, media relations manager in Public Affairs, touched on the importance of teamwork at BWH. “It’s teamwork that helps to make BWH so strong,” he said. “What you contribute individually and as part of a team everyday helps make the Brigham one of the best hospitals in the country.”
“Across the Partners HealthCare System, there’s a lot to be proud of this year,” said Lisa Ponton, JD, vice president of Human Resources, who served as mistress of ceremonies.
Many of those accomplishments were featured in the 2008 Partners in Excellence video, which topped off the celebration. The video included a progress report on the High Performance Medicine initiative and highlights from all Partners hospitals, including BWH’s opening of the Shapiro Center and achievement of a new level of excellence in stroke care. As per tradition, an upbeat song and dance number performed by employees at BWH and other Partners hospitals concluded the video.
