It took a lot of dedication—and miles of yarn—to knit more than 7,000 caps, scarves, mittens and sweaters, but that’s just what a group of BWH and DFCI employees did. Joan Casby, PT, of BWH, and Candace Lowe, ScD, of DFCI, continue to team up and recruit volunteer knitters from both institutions on behalf of the Caps for Kids program.
“This was our biggest year yet,” Casby said, as she, Lowe and other knitters unloaded boxes of handmade knitwear to the Tobin School last week. They also donate the items to six Boston elementary schools, two preschools, 15 community health centers, Head Start and homeless programs, as well as newborns in BWH’s nurseries.
Donations of caps, scarves, mittens and other items are accepted year round. E-mail Joan Casby for more information.
