Work on the Tower escalator project continues above the Lobby, Kessler Library and on the roof between the Amory and Tower buildings. Most reinforcing steel has been installed, and new decks are being poured.
The temporary relocation of the Kessler Library to L1 has been extended to early February. Library staff and resources remain available in the Bretholtz Center for Patients and Families, and library programs and classes will be held in various locations throughout the hospital. Borrowing periods for books and materials have been extended to February, too.
In February, work on the escalator pit will begin in the Main Lobby and L1. Glass curtain wall installation will also begin on the second floor. Next month, crews will be installing vent louvers for air circulation in the high ceiling in four different spots in the Tower Lobby.
The delivery and installation of the escalators in the Tower Lobby has been delayed until May because of a manufacturing issue, but the work to erect the escalator pit will begin in February.
The second floor level above the Patient Information Desk that connects to the Nesson Pike at the Cafeteria will be completed in April when the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center opens. The area that accesses the escalators from the lobby level and second floor will be safely closed off from staff, patients, families and other visitors.
