Sherman Zemler Wu and Asha Masurekar
Asha Masurekar and Sherman Zemler Wu, BWH’s newest Deland Fellows, joined the hospital this month, bringing with them a diverse range of experiences and a shared passion to learn from BWH leadership and staff.
Through the fellowship, Zemler Wu and Masurekar—both recent master’s program graduates—will spend three months of comprehensive training in clinical and administrative settings and nine months completing project-based work under the mentorship of a BWH vice president.
“I’m excited to learn how the hospital functions from the ground up and how everybody’s role fits into making Brigham and Women’s run,” Zemler Wu said.
Zemler Wu earned his master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He previously served as national director for coordination of benefits at United HealthCare. He also has served as a senior consulting manager for United HealthCare, where he managed all six sigma improvement projects. He holds a BA in economics and international studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Zemler Wu is matched with Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, vice president of the Center for Clinical Excellence.
Masurekar holds a master’s of science in health policy and management from Harvard School of Public Health. She previously was a project coordinator at Tufts-New England Medical Center’s Division of Nephrology. There, she was responsible for coordinating a survey of satisfaction with physician performance. She also has held positions as a study coordinator, serving as a liaison to the Institutional Review Board of the study sites for a study on functional health CAT in chronic kidney disease, and as a program assistant in the outcomes monitoring program at Dialysis Clinic Incorporated. She holds a BA in psychology from Brandeis University. Masurekar is paired with Sharon Vitti, vice president of Clinical Services.
“The Deland fellowship is an excellent opportunity to learn about hospital administration at one of the best institutions in the world,” Masurekar said. “I am excited to be here, and I look forward to working on projects throughout the organization.”
