“This is an inclusive program for all of our residents and fellows and an important initiative as we embrace diversity in our community and reduce health disparities,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, in welcoming all to the celebration. “We support and promote a diverse faculty that mirrors the society we serve.”
Christian Arbelaez, MD, MPH, associate director of OMC, noted that the OMC is creating a biographical notebook of all BWH minority faculty, fellows and residents as a valuable professional resource.
“The OMC will hold roundtable discussions, personalized consultations and provide mentorship on topics that affect residents and fellows,” Arbelaez said.
The OMC is within the umbrella organization of BWH’s Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (CFDD).
The CFDD serves as a centralized resource for all faculty to support career development, professional advancement and initiatives to diversify the faculty community.
Natasha Archer, MD, who just completed her internship and is beginning her residency in pediatrics, offered encouragement for new interns and praised the OMC. “There’s no doubt that this office makes this place a home for us residents and fellows,” she said.
