More than 200 physicians, coaches, athletic trainers and other sports injury practitioners gathered for the 2007 Sports Related Conference on Concussion and Spine Injury at Fenway Park April 27 to hear the latest news and research findings on head and back injuries.
“There has been a recent explosion of research available, and we have seen more in the last five years than ever before,” said Arthur Day, MD, director of the Neurological Sports Injury Center at BWH. “Team trainers, physicians, athletic personnel, neuropsychologists and others learned more about these injuries at this conference.”
This year’s discussion topics included an overview of NFL concussion research and long-term cognitive impairment of NFL players; cervical and lumbar spine injuries; peripheral nerve and vascular injuries; and on-the-field management and rehabilitation of injured athletes.
The event was hosted by the BWH Neurological Sports Injury Center, Harvard Medical School and in partnership with the May Institute.
