Beginning January 2007, the MBTA will increase fares. BWH will continue to provide a 50 percent subsidy to employees who purchase monthly passes through PeopleSoft. To see the new fares, visit http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/pdf/2007_FareInfo.pdf
Also beginning in January, the MBTA offers several new passes that replace existing passes. Depending on your commute, you may need to change your current pass to one of the new passes. The Monthly LinkPass offers unlimited travel on the local bus and rapid transit network. This pass replaces the former Subway and Combo passes. Two new passes--the Inner Express and Outer Express passes--replace the former Combo plus pass, offering unlimited travel on the entire local bus and rapid transit network including express buses. Visit the link above to see which bus routes are included in the Inner Express and Outer Express passes.
Watch for more information in the coming weeks on the MBTA’s new plastic CharlieCard, a permanent card that is reusable every month. Rather than receiving a new pass each month, information will be added to the card electronically in the same way that a debit card works. These cards will be used for all buses and subways beginning in January. Those with commuter rail, boat and express bus passes will not need the new card until late in 2007 when the MBTA installs card readers for these systems.
