Many people ask, “I love avocados, but are they fattening?”
According to BWH dietitians, the majority of calories in avocados does come from fat, but most of it is the healthy, monounsaturated type that lowers blood cholesterol when replacing saturated fats in the diet. Due to high fat content, avocados satiate hunger.
Avocados are a good source of vitamins E and C, potassium and fiber, and they contain more than 25 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Avocados also provide lutein, an antioxidant that may protect vision.
