Michael J. Zinner, MD, BWH's surgeon-in-chief and chairman of Surgery, this month received an award for Clinical Excellence from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publishers of "America's Top Doctors." Castle Connolly presented the award to Zinner last week in New York City, as the organization recognized several top clinicians in the world, including Dr. Michael DeBakey.
"It was an honor to represent BWH and receive this award, and truly humbling," Zinner said. "Surgery is a collaborative effort, and this award is a reflection of our dynamic teamwork and dedication to excellence."
Zinner became the chairman of the Department of Surgery at BWH in 1994 and his clinical focus centers on diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He was recently appointed clinical director of the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center and is a member of the editorial boards of several distinguished journals, including Annals of Surgery, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
Outside of his clinical sphere, Zinner is involved at the local, regional and national levels on issues relating to the impact of changes in the health care delivery system on the practices of surgery and academic medical centers.
